Suggest Treatment For Soreness And Swelling After Suffering A Fall

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: I recently fell and bumped my head. I have had no symptoms of concussion, but have developed two black eyes. The bump was on one side of my forehead, ad the area is still sore and swollen. Should I be checked for a possible subdural hematoma?

Brief Answer:
CT scan would rule out the possibility of a bleed

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The blackening of the eyes you are referring to is known as Raccoon eye having periorbital ecchymosis which can possibly be a sign of basal skull fracture or subgaleal hematoma.

A CT scan of the brain should be indicated especially if there was loss of consciousness, fits or vomiting episode subsequently. A neurological exam should be done to look for possible neurological deficit associated with the trauma.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
