Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: I have been diagnoised with Parkinsons for 8 yrs and am responding well to the medications. However I was put on Sinement about 2 months ago and for a month or so I have had a sore tongue. It is raw on the sides and looks like bacteria on the middle, there is soreness in different places in my mouth and sometimes I feel my tongue is swollen and also have those little skin flaps on the sides of my mouth. I have been to the dentist twice and she says my teeth are ok. Any clue what is going on.

Brief Answer:
Sinement side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. You are having sore tongue along with some soreness in oral cavity. This can be due to

: Sinement side effects

It can cause

: Spasm of tongue, oral cavity and pharyngeal muscles. It leads to soreness and difficulty in speaking (Dysarthria).

: Allergic reaction which can lead to swollen tongue, ulcer, pain in tongue.

You can confirm it by consulting ENT specialist. He will examine your tongue and check for ulcer/swelling. If no allergy, it could be tongue muscle spasm. Spasm can be confirmed from your treating neurologist.

Spasm can be seen as tremors or irregular tongue shape. There will be no ulcer, swelling or raw area.

To get some relief, you can follow few tips

: Take antiallergic like Cetrizine as it will control any allergy.

: Avoid using excessive hot or cold food, spicy food.

: Take a course of multivitamin like B complex. Deficiency of vitamin B can cause sore tongue, ulcer, raw areas. Also eat balanced diet to prevent any deficiency.

: Use non alcoholic mouth wash to treat any oral infection. You can use Chlorhexidine mouth wash twice a day after proper prescription.

All these measures will treat different causes of sore tongue and maintain mouth hygiene.

Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, kindly send me 2-3 clear picture of your tongue take in white light. It will help in reaching unto some conclusion.

Thanks. Take care.
