Suggest Treatment For Sores In The Mouth

Question: Before Christmas I had sores in my mouth that went away. I used lactinex thinking that it might be stomach related. Last night, my left eye started burning badly, was scratchy and tearing. I removed my contacts thinking that a few days off of them would help, thinking I might have had an allergic reaction to something. Today, the left side of my face is numb( as if I have had a dental procedure and the numbness is abating, my eye still burns and tears, I am having trouble drinking without dribbling. I usually take loratadine once a day for allergies and I took one benadryl. I have slept most of the day.
Brief Answer:
Involment of cranial nerves
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Your symptoms are related to areas of the face supplied by two cranial nerves, the trigeminal nerve and the facial nerve. With the history of sores, these may be the result of a viral infection. Another common cause is a decrease in the blood supply to certain parts of the brain which are related to these nerves. If the symptoms are getting worse, it is better to have yourself examined by a doctor and investigated. The sleepiness may be related to the illness or Benadryl.
