Suggest Treatment For Stage 3 Neoplasms
Question: Hello there. Thank you. My husband has a malignant neoplasm of the upper lobe lung. 9 cm x6 and three in the lymph nodes. Also has cirrosis and pancreatitis. Heavy smoker during 50 years. His legs are very swollen and started to get dizzy . Chemo sessions are very sporadic. Twice a month because of his liver condition. No good candidate for surgery. What is the prognosis. How much time he has?

I read your question and i understand your concerns. Stage 3 neoplasms are non operable mostly due to nodal involvement and metastasis. Only way to combat them is conservative with radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hyperfractionated radiotherapy etc.
He has been a chronic smoker for 50 years, this alone is enough to trigger such malignancies. Cirrhosis and pancreatitis are not directly correlated with lung cancer but they affect the prognosis and survival as an adjuvant morbid conditions.
His symptoms of fatigue, swollen legs and dizziness are all malignancy collateral damage and can only be relieved with symptomatic treatment. Also the chemo and radiotherapy a person gets is very toxic to vital organs like kidneys and heart so that causes such symptoms like edema feet and auditory problems , a few amongst many.
now the odds of survival, so in case of stage 3 lung cancers the Median survival after diagnosis is 11.4 months for patients receiving exclusive radiotherapy; 13.2 months for those receiving the combination; and 12 months for hyperfractionated radiotherapy. Overall survival was statistically greater for patients who received combined treatment than for those who had radiotherapy alone. It may be more or less in individual cases. Stay in touch with his oncologist and get him regular to cycles for better results.
The good thing is he is in safer and caring hands and he needs support and care the most at this phase. may you get the patience and comfort too.
