Suggest Treatment For Stammering In A Child

Speech therapy required if it persists for longer than 6 months
Detailed Answer:
Hello, greetings!
Thanks for posting your query on hcm.
Stammering in a young child can occur sometimes during part of their development process.
If stammering is of a short duration and hasn't been there prior to this, most probably he will grow out of it. But if the stammering persists beyond 6 months, then he will need the help of a speech therapist who specializes in stammering problems.
In the meanwhile you may help your son in the following ways:-
- Do not make him conscious by asking him to repeat or talk clearly
- Keep a calm and composed environment at home
- Don't show any irritation and try to engage him in a normal conversation.
- Try to do some fun activities with your child and praise him to build his self confidence.
If you have any further doubts/clarifications, you may get back to me.
Regards,
Dr. Sonia
