I have read your query.
You have rightly approached near your diagnosis.
I want to further add that its self-limiting condition of unknown cause.
You should be cautious only if you have in addition, Raynaud's syndrome i.e (Cold fingers or toes,Color changes in your skin in response to cold or stress
Numb, prickly feeling or stinging pain upon warming or stress relief), thyroid abnormalities, allergy, and migraine other wise no need to panic.
However, if you have only pain and bruise then, its self-limiting course of Achenbach's syndrome, and in such cases investigations are seldom required.
Only thing you can do is get xray of hand focusing thumb in AP, Lateral, Oblique view done and send me the report.
