Brief Answer:
Remember positive aspects of life

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking

Suicidal thoughts in a person are important symptoms of depressive disorder mainly severe depression. If you are having suicidal thoughts then first thing that can be done is to talk with any close friend or family members about your thoughts. There is nothing wrong in talking. This will help to remove your negative thoughts and you will feel better.

First of all I would like to know if you have just thoughts of suicide or have made ideas to how to kill yourself. If there are any plans to complete suicide. Try to avoid sitting alone in a room, if that is not possible remain outside your house. Don't sit alone at any time.

Now just try to remember top ten positive things that happened to your life and gave happiness. Ignore any negative things. Now try to feel that time and think about your present situation, and how can you come out of negative feeling. Listen light music or watch your favourite shows on TV.

Think about your close family members who really care for you. There could be disputes but close family members really care about you. Don't ignore their feelings.

Try relaxation exercises like yoga, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation exercises to keep yourself relaxed. Brisk walk or running outdoors will result in release of endorphins and will lift your mood.

Have diets rich in proteins and carbs and low in fat. Eat chocolates that will help to boost your mood.

Most important thing that should be done if the thoughts are uncontrollable is to call a Psychiatrist or suicide helpline. Talking to someone will help.

Medicines like low dose benzodiazepines will decrease restlessness and will improve your condition. Once acute phase is passed then anti-depressants like SSRIs as Sertraline, Paroxetine will help to maintain the mood and will treat depression.

Thanks, hope this helps you. You can ask again for more doubts.

I'm trying to take control over my feelings and to understand why I can't stop it.
I can't talk to any of my friends. I have a therapist and last time I asked for help it got me locked up in a psych ward. People often say look at the positive things and people in your life before making any rash actions. The thing is I'm just tired, very much tired of living for others while being miserable myself.

Brief Answer:
Change your routine

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

I can understand your feelings. Its very easy to say that look into positive aspects but its really difficult to implement it, but our main aim is to improve your condition. If talking to friends is not possible then convey your distress to any family member you confide.

Don't judge life by looking into present situation but instead thing of whole life. You got ready to ask question here this itself proves that there is some hope left. We can utilise this thing and you will improve. There is nothing wrong in life, problems come and go.

Inability to control feelings and feeling that your are tired of living etc are symptoms of depression and warrant proper psychiatric evaluation.

As suicide intention is considered as emergency so this was the reason they admitted you in psychiatric ward. I would suggest you to visit a psychiatrist again for treatment of depressive symptoms. Don't accept for admission but ask for medicines if you don't want to get admitted. Medicines will help in improvement of mood.

Listed light music and read good books and you will see improvement.

Thanks

Hi
I'm already on Zoloft 175mg a day. I'm thinking of stopping meds since they don't seem to be helping. I'm writing to you, because it's easier than talking in person. I can't trust anyone anymore. It's sad, but this is my only outlet for now. I'm trying and running out of strength...

Brief Answer:
Sertrline

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Sertraline or zoloft is a good anti-depressant drug. The drug help in decreasing depressive symptoms. But still you are not getting relief and have suicidal thoughts. If we consider in terms of medicines then Modafanil can prove useful in your case. The drug is usually prescribed in morning hours and it helps in maintaining motivation and alertness in day time. The drug will help to decrease suicidal thoughts by improving activity levels. If possible discuss with your doctor for that.

Yes you can talk here. Then I would like to know what are the main issues which are making you to feel low?
Is there any significant stressor that is causing distress?
How the problem has started, like when you were completely alright? How the symptoms progressed?
If there is any significant event that precipitated the symptoms?
If there is any family support or not?
What are the positive things that are not allowing you to kill yourself?
How do you judge yourself in term of life?

If you are not able to trust anyone to talk even then you can vent out your mind and you will feel a little better. To keep relaxed as I have mentioned earlier also watch a good movie or listen music. You can go for shopping which will give a boost to your mood. Diets as I have mentioned like chocolates, nuts will help in better mood. Don't remain alone in room instead you can go out to spend time even alone. Throw out any thing that can become potential suicide method like insect kills, ropes, sharp blades etc. This will prevent any mis-happening in events of significant distress.

And again, though difficult think about any positive thing in your life. Don't just ignore positive things. A lot of individuals with depression retrospectively falsify their life as negative. Try to find out light. At the end of dark tunnel there will be light and you will improve.

Thanks, hope this helps you.

Hi
Thanks for the suggestions, I've been trying to distract myself for awhile now. I have an apt with my psychiatrist next week, I'll see if I can make it.
I'm sorry if I sound vague, but I can't answer all your questions. I don't have the strength to do so. I'm very distressed and alone..
it's -20 where I live, the snow makes everyone stay indoors. so going out is hard.
I'm so very tired with everything. I can't wash off the feeling of impending doom.

Brief Answer:
Continue life style changes

Detailed Answer:
Hello again, hope you are doing well

Yes try to change the life style. If it is difficult to talk or to write here then there is no need to apologise. You will gain strength in some time and then you can write your history in detail so that we can work out.

Try to enjoy winters though temp is very very low.

If you have even access to a general practitioner then you can take short acting benzodiazepines like Clonazepam with proper prescription. The drug will help to relieve severe distress and feeling or impending doom.

Thanks, wish you a good health.

Yes, I will consider Clonazepam, it's a controlled substance, my dr suggested before but i didn't wanna be addicted 2 it or something.
Can you be honest with me please, when it's ok for someone to give up?

Answered by Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Never give up

Detailed Answer:
Hello again...

You didn't want to take Clonazepam because of fear of addiction and this itself proves that you will not give up.

As per my opinion never give up. Some times due to bad times we loose hope but ultimately we have to live to finish our dreams. So don't loose hope. You will be alright, let time to correct everything. Negative things will pass and you will start seeing positive.

Thanks :)
