The severity of the allergic response can vary from mild to severe.

The swelling is due to the body's allergic response to the stings.

The area should be cleaned to remove any remaining venom.

If he is not experiencing any symptoms of a severe allergic reaction which would require hospital treatment then he can treat himself at home.
Signs and symptoms of severe allergic reaction are severe swelling of the face with difficulty swallowing due to throat swelling, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, weakness

If these are not present then he can consider doing the following: (1) use an oral anti histamine such as benadryl, claritine, allegra, zyrtec

(2)use an anti inflammatory pain killer- this would help with the inflammatory response and the pain - eg are ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen

(3)a topical steroid such as hydrocortisone applied to the area would also help reduce any inflammation at the sting site

(4)may want to clean the area with a mild antiseptic to reduce the chance of any infection occuring

If the allergy symptoms worsen, need to see a doctor because other treatment such as steroids may be needed.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
