Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Knee, Swollen Hard And Red Left Leg After Injury

I fell at home, on the carpet, three weeks ago. The brunt of the fall was on my left knee. I also broke two bones in each of my big toes. I went to the hospital for x-rays and they just told me to put ice on it and follow up with my doctor. I was also given a walker, to keep pressure off my legs.
As background information, my legs have a tendency to swell, and when I go out, I usually wear support stockings.
My left knee was extremely swollen after the fall, but a few days later, my leg and foot were also very swollen and had several bruises of various different colors. My left leg from above my knee to the top of my foot is hard, red, hot and swollen, and the front part of my leg is also very shiny. I went to my podiatrist, who said I had an infection, and prescribed an antibiotic for around ten days, which I finished taking my last dosage today. The bruises have gone, but the swelling is still there.
My left leg is still hot, red, hard and swollen, and at times (when I move my leg, or try to walk on it) I get a sudden burst of pain in my knee, which goes away after a few seconds. I'm getting very worried, and I've been reading that this could be phlebitis. Since this is the weekend and I cannot contact my doctor until Monday, should I be worried enough to go to the ER to check if it is phlebitis or can I wait to see my doctor? Can a fall trigger phlebitis?
