Question: Hello, I have recently had swelling in my ankles. Even in the mornings after lying in bed overnight. What could be the cause? I have not gained weight, I am moderately active. Should I walk more? Take a diueretic(sp?) ?

Brief Answer:
may be vein or heart issue, ultrasound diagnostics recommendable

Detailed Answer:
Dear Patient,

swelling of the ankles may be an issue of malfunctioning veins in the legs or related to heart issues, Thyroid .Before therapy recommendation can be given, diagnostics with ultrasound of veins and heartcheck (ekg, heart 2D echo) is recommendable. Get your thyroid and kidney functions tested.

A diuretic may give you relief in both cases, although there may be other more specific treatments available once the cause is determined.

Best regards
