1. Ankle and leg edema is usually of cardiac cause. Due to reduced venous refilling.
2. Reduced activity in the legs like long journey or vein compression can cause it. Venous congestion is the main cause.
3. Limb elevation in lying down position with 2-3 pillows below legs with legs above position of heart will reduce swelling. If not reduced, diuretics like furosemide maybe needed occasionally.
4. Commonly seen in hypertension of long duration.
