Suggest Treatment For Swollen Glands In The Neck Of A Child

Question: My 3 year old son's glands in his neck were noticeably swollen on Sunday. He has had a cough and low grade fever of 100 during the day, but at night he feels like he is on fire. We are in the fourth day? I brought him to the Doctor on Monday and was told he has a viral infection and it needs to run its course. My son won't take anything like ibuprofen. I've tried in all the available forms, except the suppository. Why isn't there a flavorless product available for consumers? Anyway, should I take my son in for a second opinion?

I have given him some Motrin mixed in with juice. He won't take it alone and he isn't normally a juice drinker. I have also tried allergy medicine the same way. He has caught on to the flavor even though I have tried fruity and grape. If I had something with out any flavor I could put it in his milk. It has been more than 24 hours since I could get any kind of medicine in him.

It sounds like you think he has a respiratory infection. Should I take him in for an antibiotic prescription?

His play has been less than usual. Nights have been terrible and very hard to rest because of the fevers.
