Question: I have a hemorrhoid 1st time ever. I was told to push it back up. I tried now it is swollen. So should I stop touching it. I have used Preparation H and Suppositories. It no longer sore. But it is to swollen to be pushed back up. Should I just keep putting the cream on it to keep it moist. And let time take it course. and will hit shrink enough for me to push it back or should I go into see a doctor? Please help....

Brief Answer:
sitz baths, steroid cream, pain meds

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

(1) yes you may want to stop touching it for now unless gently applying cream because it would cause it to be further inflamed
(2)When the acute inflammation decreases , it will shrink and retract
(3)treatment involves continuing the prep h plus the following:

(a) avoid prolonged standing or sitting , use a cushion or donut when sitting
(b)obtain a mild topical steroid cream from your local pharmacy eg hydrocortisone. This has anti inflammatory effect and would help with your symptoms.
Use twice daily
(c)sitz baths - these would really help bring you some relief- warm water with salt or epsom salt.
Sit for 10 to 20 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day

It would reduce the swelling and discomfort

(d)use anti inflammatory pain killers- these would also help with both pain and swelling
This includes medications such as ibuprofen, naproxen, cataflam, aspirin
One of these can be used

(e)avoid straining with bowel movements. May want to consider a stool softener for a few days

(f)after using the toilet, dabb not wipe

(g)after resolution , you need to treat constipation if present. The best treatment for hemorrhoids is constipation treatment to prevent recurrence.
This means a diet high in fiber plus at least 8 glasses of water daily (coffee, tea and alcohol would not count as fluid because they cause fluid loss).

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
