Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lymph Node In Armpit
Question: Hello
I have a question about a reactive lymph node. I have had some discomfort in my armpit for a few weeks and went to get it checked today. The doctor didn't really explain anything other then I have ONE reactive node that was swollen less then a centimeter. He prescribed a antibiotic and said if it grows or doesn't go away I might need a BIOPSY!?!? This has me concerned. I'm 29 and had a full health check in October. It's december. My blood work came back fine also my pap and breast exam were good. Do I need to worry about this? Thanks.

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
thank you for sending the question.
At this point it does not appear that the swollen lymph node is a malignant process.
this is a very very common problem. Lymph nodes can swell in response to viral or bacterial infections.
It is very reasonable to complete a course of antibiotics and if the lymph node is still swollen your doctor might consider a biopsy. Most of the time however, this is not needed.
If you're feeling fine and your lab work is fine it is not likely to be a problem.
It is very normal to be anxious about this type of thing but I want to reassure you that again most often this is not a worry some problem.
Thanks again for sending your question.
