Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lymph Nodes In Collarbone

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: About a week ago, I noticed an inflamed lump that seemed to develop overnight, right above my collarbone, towards my shoulder. The inflamation left almost as soon as it had appeared, and there is now a lump (more like a raised place) that is soft, and moveable. There is no pain, but I am aware it is there. The doctor told me that it could be a lipoma, or cyst as it doesn't seem to be a lymph node. She thought it was too low to be a lymph node. It hasn't changed, but when I read anything online, it drives me crazy. She suggested getting a sonogram, but indicated just watching it would be sufficient. I am worried. I am a 62 year old female, if that makes a difference. I also seem to have a very itchy neck, so have been taking allergy pills, which seem to help with that.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound is strongly recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Collarbone area is always a suspicious place for any lumps. Its because sometimes lymph nodes appear in this area and some this lymph nodes can indicate a cancer. Usually such lymph node does not appear as an inflamed lump. So in your case, this seems to be a sebaceus cyst (benign lesion) which has become inflamed. It is very characteristic for this lesion to act like that.

Sebaceus cyst should be removed as the inflammation can appear again.

Moreover, as the lump is in very important area, ultrasound is very important test and should be done. Waiting is not a good option.

This lump has nothing to do with itchy neck.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
