Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: Hello, I bit awkwardly on my shredded wheat yesterday. My left jaw felt weird and quite painful. It swelled up very noticeably. I haven't been able to chew or eat since then and it has stayed painful while awake.
Thanks Ian.

Brief Answer:
Acute inflammation of TM Joint...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting query

The description given by you seems to related to acute inflammation of the Temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) secondary to the over use of the joint.

You would require anti-inflammatory agents such as ibuprofen or diclofenac to reduce the pain and the swelling. Also, use a local anti-inflammatory gel over the affected joint.

Eat soft food and avoid chewing on the affected side.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for follow up queries.
