Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of UTI
Question: Hello, I'm a 41-year-old woman, 63" tall and about 135 lbs. I donated a kidney to my brother about 3 years ago. in the last couple of weeks, I've been noticing pain in my right abdomen, and went to a NP for an evaluation. The urine dipstick came back with WBC Esterase 125++, protein (0.3)+, and ketones 15(1.5)+. I've had blood in my urine before (since the donation), and even went to a nephrologist, but no problems were found. This is the first time there has also been protein. What could this mean?

WBC are build of protein. So its presence gives positive protein result as well. As your WBC result is high, you have urinary tract infection for sure. This can be the reason of lower abdominal pain radiating to the one side back (the side where you have one kidney).
As you have only one kidney, any urinary tract infection is much more dangerous for you than for any other person. That is why you should definitely get an antibiotic treatment.
If your pain is in the upper right abdomen, gallstones should be ruled out. If its in lower right, appendicitis, ovaries issue should be ruled out. Abdominal ultrasound seems necessary at this point as the bladder infection does not have to be the source of the pain.
