Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
Would you please clarify a few things for me?
- are you on any antibiotics for prevention of infection before or after tooth extraction?
-are you on any pain medications?
-do you have a history of gastritis?
-do you have any loose stools or vomiting after the episode you mentioned?
-what other medications are you on?
Yes, I believe all of this is related. My opinion is as follows:
- an almost empty stomach, with the physical stress of tooth extraction led to gastritis.
-add to it the medications and the symptoms worsen.
-orange juice is an irritant to the gastric mucosa. An otherwise healthy drink, it can upset the stomach under the above conditions.
Your symptoms are suggestive of possible dehydration and lack of proper nutrition. Throwing up can make the body feel warm and weak.
I recommend :
- Have a bland soup or some biscuits (avoid the ones with extra sugar and cream)
-Have steamed foods. (rice and vegetables). If your doctor has advised you not to chew on anything, stick liquid foods like soups, porridges.
-a cup of warm water with honey will help soothe the stomach
-milk is a natural antacid. Have half a cup of cool (not cold) milk. Avoid if you have diarrhea or loose stools.
-avoid caffeine, sugary, carbonated drinks.
-have smaller and frequent meals. Keep sipping water through the day. Take off from work for a day and rest.
If your vomiting continues and you are not able to keep anything down or hydrate yourself adequately, you should visit your doctor for some medical therapy.
You may take paracetamol (tylenol) for the headache and fever. ,
Make sure you stay well hydrated. If you have fever, that too leads to dehydration.
If the pain in your tummy or the headache worsens or you have fever with chills/shivering for more than 2 days, see your doctor right away to rule out infection.
I suggest getting a simple digital thermometer to monitor your temperature. Anything more a 101 F for more than a couple of days should be checked out. Else you can just hydrate yourself and take reat
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Hope you feel better.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
