Question: I noticed about 7 hours ago that the base of my middle finger on my left hand had suddenly swollen up and that it was painful to try to straighten it. The pain and swelling have continued. The pain also sometimes is felt in my palm below the finger and the third finger next to it has swollen a little now also. It is not particularly red. I don't see any cut or insect bite on it. I don't remember falling or hurting it in any way.

If you respond before 9am Friday do not bother to email as I will not receive it. Please just call the phone directly. Thank you. I will plan to apply a cold pack in the morning...

Brief Answer:
Trigger finger

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

You could be having a trigger finger. Apply ice, use a finger extension splint at night, Take Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day for 5 days.

You can get a steroid shot into the affected area which will give you relief for upto 6 months commonly.

I hope I have answered your query.
