Question: Hello,
I have tethered cord with Lipoma. Neurosurgeon have suggested for detethering of cord.
Is it necessary to undergo the surgery?
Is it safe?
Could you suggest the specialist doctor?

1. Dr Swaroop XXXXXXX Sakra hospital
2. Dr XXXXXXX Naik, Apollo hospital
3. Dr Venkatramana, Sparsh hospital

I am planning to do the surgery in Sparsh hospital with Dr Venkatramana.
Kindly advice

Also wanted to inform you that from past 1-2 months i have started developing bladder issue (neurogenic bladder), PVR is quite high. Will it recover after surgery?

Dr Venkatramana is an expert neurosurgeon with a lot of experience.

Bladder involvement is a definite indication of surgery. Usually, the worsening of bladder symptoms stop after surgery, however, any damage to bladder nerves prior to surgery recovers partly (and not fully) in most patients. This will be known after surgery only, but surgery needs to be done at the earliest to prevent further damage.

It usually takes a few weeks to recover. You should be able to join work in 2-3 weeks after surgery.
