Brief Answer:
Tonsillitis. Symptomatic care.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. The picture attached shows markedly engorged tonsils and indicates tonsillitis as the likely cause of this swallowing difficulty and pain. Most of the time it is viral infection but bacterial involvement should be ruled out as well. A simple throat swab and a blood count will sort it out.

It just needs symptomatic care. Rest for a while. Drink plenty of fluids. Prefer warm non caffeinated beverages for example honey mixed herbal tea , warm water and cold treats like ice pops etc for soothing throat. Salt water gargles also help one tea spoon of salt mixed in 8 ounces of water. Humidify the air, use throat lozenges and take some ibuprofen or tylenol for the pain as well as inflammation. if the swab comes bacterial you will need an antibiotic.

If you are getting this repeatedly or is compromising your daily life activity too much, surgical consideration can be put on the table. Talk to your doctor and let them decide what is best for you.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

Thank you Doctor XXXXXXX - if you zoom into the picture you will see spots, any thoughts in that will be helpful as well. I was prescribed antibiotics despite a negative swab. I will follow your home care. I also notice that when i eat it feels like food is getting stuck in my throat - is that due to the inflammation and is there any treatment for that? Thank you again

Brief Answer:
All related to the tonsils.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back with a follow up!

Those white spots are canker sores likely and mostly accompany tonsillitis. Viral infections also give this coated feature like white spots. With negative swabs antibiotics were not necessary. Just home remedies and anti inflammatory medications would have been sufficient. regarding something stuck in throat, that is due to the inflamed tonsils and will resolve with it. No worries.

I hope it helps.
