Suggest Treatment For Thrombophlebitis In The Leg
Question: My friend has thrombophlebitis in her leg from mid thigh down. She has had it for at least two weeks. She has been on eloquis during this time. A ultrasound done yesterday shows no improvement and possibly more involvement than initially. She has had no lab work to check how thin her blood is. What kind of lab work is appropriate for this drug and how often should it be done? Since there seems to be no progress in treatment would it be better to change to warfarin? What is involved with changing drugs at this point? My friend and I are both RNs and would like to understand this much better. The doctor is not helpful. Thrombophlebitis is treated with compression and anti-inflammatory drugs.

In order to prevent occurrence of embolism, certain drugs are given like Eloquis and warfarin.
