Suggest Treatment For Pulmonary Embolism
My forty-two year-old daughter, whose weight is always low, sometimes dangerously so, and who was diagnosed 25 years ago at Menninger clinic with anorexia (but to this day denies it - her lifestyle/habits conform closely to so-called orthorexia) recently was rushed to the emergency room where she was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. A physician I know said emboli can sometimes accompany extreme weight loss. I found on the Internet, references to the possibility of anorexia-related embolisms but there were no detailed discussions of the matter. I would greatly appreciate any information you could provide about anorexia and clotting. Iim Leyerzapf
Embolism is a rare complication of Anorexia
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern
Embolism and blood clots is a rare complication of Anorexia. Dehydration, electrolyte problems leading to cardiac rhythm abnormalities and blood vessel wall inflammation can increase the risk of blood clot formation.
Detailed evaluation including EKG, complete blood count, complete metabolic profile, electrolyte level, protein and albumin analysis, vitamin levels assays are warranted at this point.
Depending on the results appropriate refeeding plan has to be initiated.
Please be advised to follow up with her treating physician for necessary evaluation.
Meanwhile, please continue Eliquis as prescribed.
