Question: I have had tinnitus for over 20 years Two or three years ago I developed a very annoying tic in my right eye. I have been getting btox every three months. About two years ago I began having additional tics on the same side of my face which is very annoying. My doctor said if he gave me the shots any lower my face would drop. Question, are tinnitus and facial tics connected. Also what is the cause of these conditions. I'm a 78 year old woman.

Brief Answer:
Nerve root compression should be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The Facial (7th Cranial) Nerve and the Auditory (8th Cranial) Nerve have a related route through the skull.

2. A nerve route compression by a mass or blood vessel can cause such symptoms.

3. Though each of these symptoms can have different causes also, an MRI can help detect a common source.

4. Tinnitus and he mi facial spasms, twitches and tics should be investigated for a common trigger.

5. Treatment includes medication, Bolton and micro vascular decompression, if necessary.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

My question is, what kind of Dr. should I be trying to see regarding the tinnitis, the tic in my right eye and also spasms in the lower part of my face on the right side?
Are there specialists that treat patients with this complaint?
