Brief Answer:
Very mild Tinnitus. May not require treatment unless it increases.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This seems to be tinnitus, which is very common, especially when in complete silence. You may just be hearing the blood flow in the ears. Check if the sound matches your heartbeat. If it does, this is pulsatile tinnitus.

2. Get your ears examined to rule out any ear wax which is one of the commonest causes of Tinnitus. Also rule out any perforation of the ear drum. Decreased hearing also makes one more aware of tinnitus. Get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) and Impedance Audiometry (Tympanometry) done.

3. If these tests are normal, then your tinnitus is very mild and no active treatment is required.

4. I would like to know few more details like
What is your age? What is your exposure to occupational noise and loud music / earphones / XXXXXXX phones? Exposure to loud noise is also a leading cause for tinnitus.

5. If your Tinnitus increases on clenching the teeth, it may require dental bite correction. For pulsatile tinnitus, a neck doppler study and lipid profile check is advised.

6. Tinnitus increases with certain medications, stress, blood pressure changes, low hemoglobin, low blood sugar levels and so on.

7. Cochlear Synaptic Tinnitus may be treated in up to 50% people with Caroverine infusion followed by capsules for two months. Other treatments such as transtympanic steroids, gingko biloba, multi-vitamins and anti-oxidants may also help in reducing Tinnitus.

8. Kindly let me know the results of your investigations. This will help in suggesting further treatment.

9. I must emphasise that in a vast majority of patients of tinnitus, the cause is never found. However there are further treatment options depending on the type of tinnitus.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Yes, you can ignore the tinnitus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Yes, if the tinnitus does not bother you all day and while you work, then it is a very mild tinnitus and you can ignore it.

2. Anxiety can increase tinnitus.

3. Most people with tinnitus feel the tinnitus only when the surroundings are quiet. Only the most severe cases hear the tinnitus all day.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

If u hear sound in complete silence
Is it tinnitus ?
Or everybody hears some sound in complete silence
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sumit Bhatti (58 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It is Tinnitus, but the source differs.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Ideally there should be no sound heard in complete silence. Everyone does not hear tinnitus in quiet surroundings.

2. Any sound that you hear in the absence of sound is known as Tinnitus.

3. There are more minor sources than the cochlea for Tinnitus, for example: blood flow, muscle spasms, cartilage movement, eye movements, ear canal wax and so on.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Thanks a lot
I don't even know whether I can hear anything or it's just my brain hearing things due to anxiety
All I know is when I close my ears and focus on something I don't hear anything
Only if I focus on silence I feel something in my head
Is it normal ?
Can u explain me how loud is the tinnitus sound that people hear ?
I mean people with tinnitus hear sounds at what level ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sumit Bhatti (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
These things are normal with increasing age.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Patients are asked to rate the sound on a visual analog scale form 0 to 10.

2. 0 means no sound and 10 means unbearable sound.

3. There is no way to experience, feel or hear someone else's subjective tinnitus (just like anxiety or dizziness).

4. These things are normal with increasing age.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
