Question: hi,doc. Almost one year back when i bought my new headphone i suddenly got noisy sound in my right ear continuously and I found that it is tinnitus(continuous ringing) but slowly i avoided its presence. It has been almost close to one year, the ringing intensity has decreased but it is still there. When i yawn or look to left side the intensity gets loud until i bring my mouth to the normal position. I am a music lover and to an extent artist, so i need your help on the particulars to be done.
I dont feel any dizziness, no discharge coming , everything is fine and normal except for the noise that i get from some kind of sound. Like if I listen to old song or shouting of people , sound gets noisy in right year.

Brief Answer:
You need to get an audiometry done.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through the query and understand your concerns. Our ear has three parts viz. the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. The outer ear consists of the external pinna as well as the portion upto the ear drum. I do not expect a problem here. The next part is the middle ear which contains ossicles conducting the sound to the inner ear. There is a thin tube on either side connecting the inner throat with the middle ear. Thus pressure changes occur in case of swallowing and may lead to changes in the hearing sensation. This could be the reason for the change while yawning. The inner ear contains the organ of hearing. The added sounds while listening to higher frequencies concerns me. I am assuming that the sound is not from a defective instrument. In such a case I would insist you to get an audiometry done and to visit an ENT specialist for further evaluation based on the findings of the audiometry.

I thank you very much for the reply and your instruction on my hearing condition.

Earlier I got audiometry test done when a bomb rang off just close to my right ear but with time the intensity of tinnitus was completely abetted and no problem to music enjoying experience. The audiometry test showed that i have no problem in hearing.

Later i discovered from my phone's music equalizer that particulary sound frequency at around 1khz with high decible is coming as noise in my ear. when i lowed down the decible i don't hear any noise.

Is my eardrum affected at particulary this frequency of sound?

I would request you to suggest me some over-the-counter medicine or ear drops which in any way can low down the mild tinnitus continuously going in my right ear.

Brief Answer:
It is likely to be frequency specific

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

The problem seems a involve the inner ear and not the ear drum. Moreover, the hearing loss seems frequency specific and discussing about it in thorough details with an ENT doctor should help. Ear drops would not do any good and so stop is them. There is no over the counter medicine that could help but you can try taking supplements containing ginseng extract and see if it helps.

It is more than ever getting clear to me, doc. Earlier I read about ginseng, which cures tinnitus. Now this time I will definitely take it and give myself an another chance.
Can you give me any specific name of the medicine containing ginseng, it will be helpful while asking for this medicine in drug store.
