Cause of uveitis not always found
Detailed Answer:
My dear
Thanks for sending your query to us.
In a large number of cases no cause of uveitis is found. This may be related to arthritis.Do you have pain in large or small joints.T his usually is a major reason fir uveitis.
You have to understand the basic cycle.Mostly it is a autoimmune phenomenon. The defence mechanism of body is directed against the body tissues only..The collagen fibre which is part of joint cartilage is also what forms the white of eye,so what attacks the joint also attacks the eye.So if there is joint pain, investigations can be directed towards finding the reason.
Blood tests to be ordered to find the cause are based on any pointing symptoms which you have.
I have degenerative joint disease but no pain
I had hand surgery a few years ago because of ruptured tendons
do you think it is all connected?
I am relying on my GP to order all necessary tests but cannot rest without knowing how to prevent a return of the uveitis
Maybe there is no way to do this
Am I destined to take prednisone eye drops with me at all times because the uveitis comes on so quickly? XXXXXXX Williamson

Detailed Answer:
Though the uveitis may be related to your degenerative joint disease, but rupture of tendon has nothing to do with it. You should visit a Uveitis expert, who will run a battery of tests depending on physical examination. If the root cause is identified then targeted therapy can be started, otherwise anti inflammatory drugs are the only option we are left with. But, long term steroid use has its own side effects on the eye like cataract and glaucoma. So you need frequent eye checkups involving the the measurement of eye pressure and Lens.
