Suggest Treatment For Torn Meniscus And Swollen Kneee
Question: I am a 22 year old male. I hurt my knee playing basketball last December 2013. After seeing a orthopedic surgeon, a chiropractor and without an MRI the consensus is that I probably have a torn meniscus.
I have a fairly good range of motion and strength but sprinting, deep squats, any high impact exercise and pretty much any quick movement sport I am not comfortable participating in. Also slight movements and shifts of my weight sometimes cause it to pop and it will be sore and slightly swell for a day or 2 after. I lead/ led a very active life style and due to insurance policy changes by my family, surgery will be much more cost effective next year when my father plans to have knee surgery of his own.
My question is how can waiting nearly a year for arthroscopic surgery effect my ability to make a %100 recovery and gain full usage of my knee again. It kills me not to be able to play basketball, football or do crossfit but I simply cannot afford surgery at this time with my current situation.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Firstly get a MRI done.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Without a proper diagnosis, it is difficult to comment about prognosis of conservative or surgical management. I suggest you to firstly get a MRI done to confirm the meniscal injury. This will also tell us the type and extent of meniscal injury which would be helpful in deciding the management at this time.
You can upload your MRI report, so that I can help you in better ways.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
