Suggest Treatment For Trigeminal Neuralgia

Question: I have had jaw ,dental and sinus pain along with TMJ pain. Went to an ENT and he suggested an oral surgeon. I then saw a neurologist who said I had atypical trigeminal neuralgia. The pills he prescribed are really putting me in a haze and I can't drive in that condition. Any suggestions as to what I might have and possible treatment ?

I appreciate your concern

Based on your history and description, Atypical Trigeminal neuralgia is the likely diagnosis.
Trigeminal neuralgia, also known as Tic Doulourex which is a facial pain syndrome, involves the fifth cranial nerve.

Though carbamazepine is the first line drug for Trigeminal neuralgia, many patients don't respond as adequately to it as others. Other options should be tried which have less severe adverse effects.

Oxcarbezepine, topiramate, Baclofen, Lamotrigine, Gabapentin and Amitryptiline are medications which can serve as alternative to carbamazepine. Consult your doctor regarding replacing carbamazepine with one of the above.

Thank you. I will take one pill ( 100 Mg ) twice a day until I can talk with the doctor next Monday..... Perhaps he will recommend one of the drugs you listed !
