Suggest Treatment For Tuberculosis And Epilepsy Without Any Side Effects

Question: hi...my bro in law is 36 years old and has a history of nerve disorder...He is a known case of spina bifida occulta L5-S1 and has had febrile illness when he was 1 year old and again at 10 or 11 year...he developed neurogenic bladder at the age of 15 and and used to get and still gets seizures which lasts for less than a minute with stiffness of his right hand and saliva like fluid oozing from his mouth. he still has bed wetting problems at night .....he had developed left mesial temporal sclerosis in the year 2001 and was on drug Eptoin and folvite capsules twice a day....Also 06.05.2014 my XXXXX was diagnosed with Tuberculosis in the chest and was put on Tablet Forecox Twice a Day, tablet Pan-D twice a day before food and tablet Orefor-Xt once at Night and Tablet Benadon once at alternate days. I had put my concern here about the use of eptoin and forecox together and was advised that the Eptoin drug needs to be changed. Therefore on 19.05.2014 went to a neurologist and he has prescribed tablets Trioptal and Nuhenz twice a day and Glucahenz twice a week..The last seizure episode happened on 21st may 2014 even after taking the tablets trioptal and nuhenz...the neurologist had also said that if he gets seizures we have to give him Locosam tablets. but after taking all these above pills my XXXX is vomiting atleast twice a day and there is continuous hiccups when he eats or drinks anything...the Neurologist advised us to stop giving him Pan D and give him Emset and Rabistar BSr ...before food and told us to consult a chest physician for complete cure of his tuberculosis ....but the vomits have not reduced....On advice of the neurologist We went to a chest physician day before and She advised us to do a CT scan of the Chest and after that she will put him on AKT kit . Actually we are a little concerned about the gravity of the illness of tuberculosis and the number of medicines that my XXXXX is consuming and want to be ensured about his total cure for tuberculosis...and his seizures. He is a slow learner with very little vocals ..therefore he cannot express the illness and other feelings and symptoms inside his body... Kindly advise whether my course of action towards his cure is good or would you advise differently....

Thanks for your query.

I am very sorry to hear that XXXXX had to go through lots of troubles. My greatest sympathies with him.

Its a difficult situation but can be managed with caution and opting better medications. Most of the medications taken for Tuberculosis can affect the liver and can lead to vitamin deficiency or defective vitamin metabolism which is bad for nerves. Also, the medications taken for epilepsy can aggravate the toxicity of anti tuberculosis medications. Well, this is not true with every medication used in these ailments. Hence, care and caution should be stressed on when prescribing medication.

AKT kit is a better medication for tuberculosis with better cure rates. Hence, I would prefer him being on that. But his liver has to be checked for any damage as AKT is known to do that. A Liver function test every month once would do the observation.

Trioptal and Lacosam are good and safe medications for seizures, especially when he is on medications like AKT kit. He can continue on the same. The vomiting and gastrointestinal symptoms he has could be seen only in the initial days. Once he is habituated for these medications there would be no need to worry. Well, Rabistar Sr is the best remedy for the same.

Also, he is on Nuhenz and Glutahenz which improve the nerve health. These are necessary supplements and he is on them.

I conclude that the medications he is on are right and he can continue on the same without worry.

A liver function test every month till he finishes the AKT is my advice for observation.

hello ...we had been to a chest physician and the doc had adviced us to do a HRCT of the chest . the HRCT report is normal and thus the doc has advised us to stop the TB drugs Forecox and Benadon for a month... We are now only giving him anti epileptic drugs nuhenz, glutahenz and trioptal. But the fever is back again since last night and the temperature goes upto 102 degrees. I have given him nise tablet to reduce the fever. The ESR in his blood report done on 6.5.2014 is 105 ...quiet high...What could be the reason for his fever again. and where could be the possible infection in his body as the ESR is quiet high... We have also gone for a blood and urine test today..Reports are awaited..Can u plz advise us the cause of the fever or could it be possible that he has some other infection instead of tB in the chest....

Thanks for writing back.

Negative HRCT does not rule out TB. TB can affect many other organs. To know which one specific tests like urine and blood test have to be done.

I would like to see his blood and urine test report before I comment on the site of the infection.

Please see to that a test called complete blood count is also done. As it helps to know whether there is other infection or TB.
