Suggest Treatment For Tympanoplasty In Left Ear

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Sep 2016
Question: I am three months past a tympanoplasty in the left ear and still have a stuffy ear. Follow up exam showed the graft had healed. No good explanation for the stuffy ear. Have been prescribed Predinosone. Did not help. What is going on? Will it get better? I am a 72 year old male in otherwise good health.

Brief Answer:
The hearing should improve in 6 to 8 weeks post surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The hearing should improve 6 to 8 weeks after surgery.

2. Healing is usually complete in 4 to 6 weeks. Check the operative notes to see if gel foam was used in the middle ear to support the graft.

3. Inform your surgeon and get Tuning Fork Tests done. Upload the results.

4. Get a PTA ( Pure Tone Audiometry ) and I / A (Impedance Audiometry / Tympanometry) done. Upload these with the preoperative audiograms.

5. Before discussing the possible causes, these reports must be seen.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
