Question: My daughter suffers from Ulcerative colitis. She has just started a course at university to become a midwife but they are saying she is missing a mumps vaccine. She takes azathioprine., which prevents her taking live vaccines and they are saying that she may have to leave the course. This has been her dream for many years.. How can we overcome this so that she can continue with her course

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
It would be heart breaking for her to leave the dream profession on account of not being able to take a vaccine.
If her ulcerative colitis is well controlled, you can discuss substituting Mesalazine for Azathioprine for a few weeks with her doctor. Usually it's not a problem.
Best wishes,
