Question : I have urinary retention problems. Ten years ago (at age 70) I had successful prostate cancer radiation treatment. But now I have to urinate on every tree on the golf course. My urologist said my prostate could not have grown large because of the treatment. I've tried flomax and am currently using vesicare to no avail. Help

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been treated for caner of the prostate with radiotherapy 10 years back and now has frequency for urination and poor stream .

This is most likely to be due to one of the two following reasons .
1) Post radiation bladder neck stenosis which is very common after radiation
2) Recurrence of cancer prostate .

Please discuss with your Urologist for getting following test done to confirm the diagnosis .
1) Urine routine and urine culture
2) Uroflowmetry.
3) Ultrasound scanning f abdomen and pelvis
4) Serum PSA .
5) Endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy).

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.
