Suggest Treatment For Urticaria

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Jun 2015
Question: Hello Doctor, my name is XXXX and I am based out of Sydney. For the last 4 months I am suffering from urticaria. I have consulted an allergist who termed it as idiopathic without running any answers. I don't know if there is a better speciality I should consult or what tests to run as the blood tests revealed a IgE of 380 which the allergist said wasn't too high. I don't know what to do. I am depressed. My thyroid TSH is normal(2.4) but my antibodies are around 100. I don't know the cause and want to establish it. I get a constant 24 hour pricking sensation. Actual welts are few
I also suffer from chronic constipation. Have tried probiotics, fibre, water, nothing helps.

Brief Answer:
Treatment is slow process

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. treatment of urticaria is a slow process. It usually takes 4-6 weeks or in some cases even more. Following steps will help :

- Cetirizine one at night for 7 days
- Keep a good eye on thing which is causing the allergic reaction. e.g dust, particular food, clothing , etc. Once you establish the cause THEN avoid it for atleast 4-6 weeks.
- Montelukast one daily for one month. Research has shown that it decreases the allergic symptoms considerably.

After completing the medicines. Start that particular food in very small amounts to see if body has developed immunity or not. Hopefully by then it will be created and your symptoms will reduce.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
