Question: In the fall, I begin having vaginal itching. My doctor tested me and found bladder infection. I received an antibiotic for it which I felt was very strong. The itching went away, but comes back. I cannot establish a pattern, but it does come back after intercourse. Along with this I have a strong fishy urine odor. I have been loathe to go back to the doctors he will give me an antibiotic which makes me feel awful. Am I causing more damage to my body for not going, and what is causing this?

Brief Answer:
Yes, please see a doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.

It seems that you are having a recurrent vaginal infection.
It has a corelation with intercourse, so your partner could be giving it to you.
Yes, you are better off consulting a doctor.

Left untreated, it might progress into a severe infection and spread to the bladder/ bowels.

Here is what you should do -

Consult a Specialist OB - GYN and not just your primary health care provider.
Get an internal exam done, including a vaginal swab - that will confirm what kind of infection is there - bacteria, fungus or virus.
Also have a Pap smear done.
Once this workup is done, the diagnosis will be established, and you can be accordingly treated.

Do not fear antibiotics, as sometimes they are required for proper elimination of the infection.

Meanwhile, please have protected sex till this is sorted out.

All the best
