Suggest Treatment For Vomiting And Sinus Issues

Stomach bug, stress incontinence and thick secretions
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
Sorry that you are going through this.
Based on your symptoms, I believe you may be coming down with a stomach bug and that you are dehydration.
Stress Incontinence (losing bladder and bowel Control when there increased abdominal pressure like coughing, sneezing, laughing, vomiting) can happen when there is weakness of the pelvic floor muscles.
Would you please clarify a few things for me?
-how long have you had symptoms of incontinence? What color is your stool. And how frequent is it? Any mucus or blood in it?
-how long have you had sinus problems? Do you have a sinus infection or cold now? Did you take any medications for it?
-do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
-do you have any children? Have you given birth vaginally?
-any surgeries? Is so, for what and when?
-any injuries to your spine?
I recommend :
-a physician consult
-an OBGYN consult to check any prolapse of uterus or pelvic floor weakness.
-stool analysis to check for infection and parasites
-blood tests (complete blood count, kidney and liver function tests)
In the meantime :
-increase Hydration. Drink about 3 liters of water throughout the day, unless your doctor has told you not to. Urine should be light coloured.
-avoid sugar, caffeine and carbonated drinks and spicy, oily, fried foods.
-Have oral rehydration solutions (about 200 ml) after every loose stool. Take it in sips if it makes you throw up.
-steam Inhalation thrice a day to loosen secretions in your sinuses so you don't gag and strain to ear them.
-sit in a warm bath filled with steam. This helps moisten your airways and loosen secretions.
-garlic is natural Mucolytic. Saute 3pods in a little oil and eat them.
-avoid milk and dairy. Worsens the loose stools.
Depending on the findings of your clinical exam and test results, a treatment plan will be formulated.
Sometimes concentrated urine and intestinal infection can irritate the sphincter and lead to incontinence.
Please seek medical attention to make sure there is nothing to worry about.
I'm afraid that your trip may have to be postponed. You don't want to be sick away from home (not that you want to be sick at all).
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Hope you feel better soon and that you get to vacation.
Warm regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.
What blood pressure and cholesterol medications do you take?
What were the results of the D&C earlier? How thick was the 'thickening'?
A D&C for abnormal thickening is repeated only if there is abnormal bleeding or when there were abnormal results in the first tissue exam.
Repeated D&C needs a clear indication and should be monitored by a gynecologist.
Zyrtec is an antihistamine and does not treat an infection.
It helps if you have severe sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes.
It dries up secretions (phlegm) and makes it difficult for you to clear it.
If you don't have any of the above symptoms, stop zyrtec. This can affect you bowel movements as well.
A sinus infection is characterized by fever, pain over the affected area and foul smelling secretions.
If you don't have any of this and have only thick secretions, please try my recommendations.
I still urge you to consult an OBGYN for the incontinence,in addition to the thickened uterine lining. Vaginal deliveries can weaken the pelvic floor and contribute to Incontinence especially during physical stress (an illness, or long travel)
A stomach bug is usually self limiting in 3-5 days. If it gets worse and you are not able to hydrate yourself adequately, seek help right away.
Please consider my recommendations.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you well.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
