Brief Answer:
Probably a viral fever.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX, welcome to HealthcareMagic.
Thanks for posting to us.

Let me know if he is having any other symptoms like severe headache, cough, throat pain, abdominal pain, loose stools, pain/burning sensation on urination, increased frequency of urination etc.
If no such symptoms, this may just indicate a viral fever and need only supportive treatment for few days.
Both low and high temperature are common features of systemic infections like viral fever, and need not be worried much.

Let him take acid lowering agents(like Ranitidine 150 mg twice daily before food) for 3-5 days. If vomiting is not controlled, we may need addition of antiemetics like domperidone too. If feeling febrile, also add acetaminophen (500 mg thrice daily after food).
Also, take adequate rest, drink plenty of oral fluids, have a light diet rich in fruits and veggies. Avoid spicy items.

If he is not getting better by 2 days of these supportive measures or if other mentioned symptoms appear, kindly see your doctor as this will need further evaluation and antibiotic treatment.

Hope this answer will help.
