Suggest Treatment To Loose Weight
Question: I have had trouble losing weight for last 4 years (60-64 age). I have be going to gym 5 days a week since Oct 2013. I have lost 5 lbs, but i used to lose that in a week with diet and exercise. I had my T tested and was 235. Also had first time bout with psoriasis. Should I consider at least a atrial of Testosterone Therapy? I have no ED problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal
The weight loss is always slowed down when you have been going to gym.
The initial weight loss is always more.
Then as your metabolism gets stabilized, the weight stabilizes and the loss is slowed.
You can try changing your exercise regime.
Testosterone therapy for what?
What is your vitamin D level?

From other professionals is physical fitness, they suggested T therapy for weight loss. They sited many examples.
I have seen a few web references to T therapy side effect of disappearing the psoriasis eruptions.
I just had my Vitamin D level checked as 33.1 ng/ml. I stopped my Calcium Citrate, D3 supplement about 2 days before the test since I found a few references that excess Calcium could inflame psoriasis.
Why the sudden appearance of psoriasis and no known family history of it? XXXXXXX ..

Brief Answer:
Replace Vit D. Avoid testosterone
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Testosterone therapy can have severe side effects
I will suggest it should be avoided and other modalities of treatment used till they are available. Similarly for weight loss, other options like orlistat may be available and so avoid testosterone till later.
And you should definitely replace your Vitamin D more aggressively> you can avoid calcium. But Vit D needs to be replaced.
Best of luck

Brief Answer:
no significant connection with T
Detailed Answer:
Psoriasis need not always be familial
I agree that some autoimmune forms are familial
But there are many infective causes too
And infections dont need a family history to happen
Best of luck

I think I have not been able to get the message across
See it is an auto immune disease- in this the body forms antibodies (normally protective units of the body) against a part of the body. These are usually formed to some infection you may have had once upon a time (at this stage they were protective and helped fight the infection). That infection would be over. But the antibodies remain and act on the body tissues.
Thats what I meant. The antibodies may be produced genetically or after an infection. genetic would be familial, but the infection can happen to anyone.
Best of luck

Ok, recapping to make sure I got it. No treatment for psoriasis, as in itself, an infection. Only topical or external treatment to reduce the irritations. Is this correct? XXXXXXX ..
Brief Answer:
immunosupression- needs specialists
Detailed Answer:
Psoriasis, as I said is autoimmune
You can always try immunosuppressants like methotrexate, cyclosporines and biologicals
Besides, if you find a centre with phototherapy, thats quite an effective therapy as well
Best of luck

Brief Answer:
I can help with immunosuppression but...
Detailed Answer:
there is no immunosuppression specialist
It can be managed by a rheumatologist
However I would suggest you meet a rheumatologist live
There are too many side effects of the medicines
I can help you with the treatment myself
I have worked with immunosuppression for a while now
(in view of the fact that some immunosuppressants cause raised sugars and infections)
Best of luck
