Question: Hello. I am 49 y.o. female. after traumatic fall and then I had to ambulate for several hours at the end of May this year (2014), I was Dx with hip labrum tear (and I had a significant seroma on hip and buttock which is resolving) per MRI. Any pelvic or hip Fx's were r/o via many xrays and bone scans. Per a ortho physician recommendation, I started P.T. and could not tolerate it. Then, after a physiatrist eval it was decided I should have sx. The ortho physician I saw is great but stated he lacked experience with labrum tear repairs. I smoke 1/2 ppd or less. I do understand the labrum is avascular and smoking is terrible habit. I am now on a nicotine patch and am trying very hard not to smoke at all. The Dr who specializes in the sx I need will not perform my sx unless I totally stop smoking for 30 days and not wear nicotine patch either. I can not walk more than 5 minutes at a time on even surfaces only, or WB to sit properly, I have an awful limp now and can not bend over. It has been over 5 months! I am looking for a surgeon here in Michigan that I could see before January due to ins OOP and I just can hardly take this anymore. There must be surgeons that will repair labrum tears for a light smoker. Can anyone help me/advise me. My overall health is good and have an avg wt.
