Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXX,
Thanks for your question.
After going through your question, I can understand your concern.
Considering your weight and height your BMI (Body Mass Index) is 34.7 which denote obesity.
Though your HbA1c is well controlled (below diabetes range) I will not recommend you to stop your antidiabetic medicines totally.
Diabetes has more complications than the side effects of your antidiabetic medicines.
Tab Galvus Met contains Metformin 500 and Vildagliptin 50 mg.
If patient with similar scenario might have come to me, I would stop Tab Galvus Met and increase the dose of Metformin to maximum 2000mg per day. (Considering you are taking Tab Galvus Met once a day).
And will ask to repeat Fasting and Post prandial Blood sugar levels after 3 to 4 weeks and will take appropriate decision accordingly.
There is rare but definite possibility of reversal of Type 2 diabetes in obese patient after losing significant weight.
In your case there might be possibility of reversal of Type 2 diabetes if you can achieve BMI of less than 25 (that is weight below 83 kg).
Keep following diet and exercise as now.
Also it is advisable to do following investigations if not done earlier-
1) Complete blood count.
2) Renal function test.
3) Liver function test.
4) T3, T4, TSH.
5) Lipid profile.
6) Hormonal studies if required, depending upon clinical examination.
7) Evaluation of cardiovascular risk factors.
Clinical examination is also important in your case for evaluation of correctable causes of obesity.
For better evaluation and opinion you should consult near by Endocrinologist or Diabetologist.
Hope I have answered your question.
I will be happy to answer your follow up question, if any.
Regards,
Dr. Abhay Mali.
Diabetologist.
