i was diagnosed with a GBM in my right front lobe in 2002.I had a resection in December of that year. my surgeon told me that the right front lobe is a silent part of the brain. he said he was 85% sure that he coiuld remove it with out causing me any deficit. he was correct. I woke up in ICU after surgery and everything felt normal my tour recurred in 2012 on the back margin of the original tumor. this time when i woke in recovery nothing felt normal and I have discovered that my short term memory has been affected. I often can't remember what I did or ahas told 10 minutes ago. I feel slightly off most days and I feel normal some days. I joined the website Lumosity and played the games there for about 6 months but I have only improved slightly since then.My personality has been slightly affected too. MY FRIENDS AND GIRL FRIEND SA THAT I am less engaged and talkative now.
Brief Answer:
Use plasticity of brain
Detailed Answer:
my dear friend
the fact is that the problem is due to the damage to the frontal lobe.
All the functions that have been distorted are part of the functions of the frontal lobe, including the changes in the memory.
The problem is there is no medicine available that can help heal the brain.
The healing of the brain takes a procedure called plasticity.
This is a mechanism of the brain where the normal neurons pick up the functions of the abnormal/damaged neurons.
Once that happens, a person can be normal again. This can however take time.
i will suggest you use alternative methods to aid memory, like making a note in a diary etc. Also, you can aid plasticity by making a concious effort at doing what you know is your deficit. If you had a walking disability, I would tell you to walk as much as possible, or at least exercise the affected leg as much as possible. You have to do something similar now.
And you need to be patient. Dont get frustrated. Hang out with your friends. make comments now that you know that is a deficit. Listen to music or better still join a debate classes.
I know you may feel this is not much of help. I will ask you to trust me on this. The medicines are not available to heal brain, not out of experimental levels at least. The best way is to exercise your deficits and increase the plasticity of your brain.
Best of luck
