Suggest Ways To Remove Moisture Inside The Ankle Cast
Question: I had ankle reconstruction surgery (bro strum Gould repair and arthroscopy) on August 16.
I had the original padding and backs lab removed on Thursday (today is Saturday). Surgeon said dissolvable stitches and healing looked good and a non waterproof fibreglass cast was put on (now non weight bearing for 4 weeks. This morning while having a shower, my store bought cast cover failed and even after drying with a hairdryer for 20 minutes, the cast continued to feel wetter and wetter all day. I just tried drying it again for another 20 min with the hairdryer, but it still feels cold and soaked inside and I can feel my stitches sticking to the inside of the cast. Is this an emergency or can I wait until tomorrow to get a new cast? Or will it dry if I keep using the hairdryer? FYI the doc put a lot of cotton padding inside to aid with my mobility.

Brief Answer:
You can wait till tomorrow.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
In this situation you can wait and try drying the cast with a hair dryer again. Since the stitches have healed well, it does not seem to be harmful. If it has been more then 2 weeks since the surgery then you can wait till tomorrow to get a new cast.
I hope this answers your query.
