Brief Answer:
Arthroscopy can help.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent knee pain that you have is likely to be due to the discoid meniscus and mild arthritic changes. To decrease the knee pain permanently knee arthroscopy and removal of the meniscus can help. The cyst may also have to be removed in case it is big. Taking joint lubricant supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin can help.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

What could potentially happen if left untreated (while continuing to workout)? how long would the joints last before failing or would the pain just get worse?
Brief Answer:
Can aggravate the problem.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If left untreated then the arthritis can aggravate and the pain can gradually increase depending on the extent of problem. It may take many years for the athritis to aggravate and proper and regular physiotherapy and joint lubricant supplements can delay it further.
Hope my answer is helpful.
