Question: about 2 1/2 hours ago I started having a piercing nerve-type pain around my left ear. It seems deep in my head. It causes 2-3 second episodes that are intense and feel like a shock deep in my ear. They occur about every 3-5 minutes. I am very healthy and active, a retired RN. Have had no recent illness or infection. Am on 3 daily Rx meds: Atorvasttin 10mg, Losartin 25 mg, and Montelukast 10mg. Have been on all of them for about 2 years. Also when these episodes occur, the cause no symptoms other than the very localized pain.

Possibility of trigeminal neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
There can be possibility of trigeminal neuralgia characterized by short lasting piercing electric type pain over face distribution.
Another possibility may be trigeminal autonomic cephalgias.
You can take a painkiller at present.
If symptoms persists and reoccurs then evaluation by a neurologist is needed.
Brain mri may be required too.
Any history of ear discharge, vertigo, hearing loss, buzzing in ear, vomiting or previous migraine episodes?
Hope you found the answer helpful.
