Test Done For Glucose Serum, Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides And LDL. What Does The Value Signify?

222 total cholesterol
179 triglicerides
139 LDL
Not sure what all that means
Thanks for writing in.
Your investigations can be grouped in to two, one being the serum glucose and the second being the lipid profile which includes total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein(LDL).
Your blood sugar is normal(range 90-140 mg/dl). If this was elevated, it would be an indicator of diabetes.
Your lipid profile values are slightly high.
Normal total cholesterol range (<200mg/dl). Your total cholesterol level:222
Normal Triglyceride range (<150mg/dl).Your triglyceride level:179
Normal LDL range(<130mg/dl).Your LDL level:139
Elevated lipid profile is an indicator of cardiovascular risks, atherosclerosis, heart disease and hence the levels have to be brought back to normal. I think you should follow the below mentioned measures to reduce your lipid levels. Repeat the Lipid profile test after 3 months and see if there is any reduction in the values.
1. Regular exercise 30-45 minutes a day 5 days a week is a must.
2. Try to lose weight if overweight.
3. Have plenty of fruits and XXXXXXX leafy vegetables.
4. Have Oats as a porridge with skimmed milk. Oats help in reducing cholesterol.
5. Use Olive oil for cooking and in salads.
6. Avoid fatty, oily , XXXXXXX fried food, fresh cream, chocolates etc. Avoid junk food , mayonnaise.
Basically, try to cut down on fat intake.
7. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.
8. Avoid red meat like beef, pork, mutton. Chicken may be consumed occasionally after removing the fat.
9. Avoid egg yolks. Egg whites may be consumed .
10.Avoid smoking and alcohol.
Hope this helps.
