Took Few Tums Before Blood Work. Would That Cause Change In Calcium Readings?
Question: I recently got blood work done and my blood calcium was in the mid 11's. I am usually in the 9's. I did take about 5-6 tums a few hours before taking the test. Would that potentially spike the calcium readings?
Hi,
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Yes antacids contain calcium and that can cause a spike in calcium readings. Even Vitamin D intake or diuretic intake (Thiazide diuretics) can also cause spike in calcium readings.
