Using Otrivin For Blocked Nose. Suggest Any Permanent Solution
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I request you to update me with the following details.
1. Do you have associated complaints like recurrent sneezing, itching nose, running nose etc.
2. Do you have any other allergic conditions like bronchial asthma, skin allergy etc.
3. Does any member of your family (parents, brothers etc) suffer from similar problem.
I suspect allergic rhinitis in a person who has recurrent nasal blockage ...... that occurs more commonly during a particular season.
We normally prescribe antihistaminics during a particular attack or episode. Nasal decongestants like the one you are using are prescribed but should not be used for prolonged periods.
To prevent this one should avoid the allergen that is causing the problem...... it could be house hold dust, pollen.... etc etc.. (which is not easy to identify in most of the cases. Even if identified in most of the cases it will be difficult to avoid the substance causing allergy)
We prescribe steroid nasal sprays to prevent further attack. They reduce the frequency of the attack. Even my wife uses Mometasone nasal spray for prevention of her allergic rhinitis. She has reduced frequency of attacks now.

Thank you for your reply.
Nose block, some times associated with recurrent sneezing, itching nose.......... are suggestive of conditions like allergic rhinitis.
Physical examination by your doctor will help in confirming the diagnosis and as a preventive measure to prevent further attacks he may prescribe you with the steroid nasal spray.
