HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Vomiting and diarrhoea may occur in gastroenteritis which is usually caused by a viral infection. In some persons it may be caused by a bacteria but in bacterial infections there may be blood in the stool or vomit, fever , headache or dizziness.
In viral infections the main treatment is as follows: (1) avoid solid food

(2) making sure that she does not become dehydrated- she needs to be given a small amount of fluid to drink with each episode of vomiting and each episode of diarrhoea. The amount of fluid should be small or she will vomit it up. You can give her a table spoon at a time, every 5 minutes. If she tolerates this then this can be increased slowly. It would be best to go to your local pharmacy and ask for oral rehydration fluid, if this is not available then you can dilute a gatorade
(3) your mother should monitor how often she passes urine. If she notices she is not passing urine as she would normally,it may mean she is dehydrated
(4) It would be important to seek medical attention if she develops any evidence of dehydration, becomes very drowsy, develops very low or very high blood sugars or you do not feel comfortable managing her at home

In diabetic patients infections can sometimes cause high blood sugars that result in symptoms such as vomiting. It would be associated with dehydration (decreased fluid in the body) and excess drowsiness.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

HI, she should not use a full glass of water, only about a table spoon at a time every 5 minutes. Her stomach cannot take a full glass right now.

Because she now has a fever and has a history of diabetes, she may want to consult her doctor for an examination. He or she may adjust the medication while she is ill.
If her doctors office is unavailable any emergency centre would be ok

Please feel free to ask any other questions
