Posted on Thu, 5 Jun 2014
Question: I was diagnosed with complex prostate cancer about a year and a half ago. I have since been receiving treatment at Cancer Treatment Centers of XXXXXXX in XXXXXXX Ga. I had calypso beacons implanted in my prostate and received 39 radiaiton treatments. I was immediately placed on Lupron deposit even before the radiation treatments and remained on it for over a year. This was supplemented with casodex for most of that time. The side effects are terrible and after my PSA climbed to 6 on the combination and 11 after the casodex was discontinued I was switched to Lytiga and prednisone wihich immediately dropped my PSA to 0.87 and then 0.73. IO am diagnosed with micro mestatic cancer although all tests have shown no signs of cancer. Is it possible I don't have micro mestatic cancer after all?

Brief Answer:
prostatic cancer

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXX,
Micro metastasisis of prostate cancer is usually found in bones. PSA is the best indicator for the tratment response. prostate cancer is hormone dependent. Antiandrogenic drugs work for some time and finally they show resistance. As far as they are responsive the micrometasis will disappear. Newer hormones can be tried if te present ones dont work. This is called chemical castration. Once it turns castration resistant monclonal antibodies and chemotherapy can be tried.
Your present investigations show no evidence of cancer but you are still harbouring the problem which will manifest after you turn reistant to present drug regieme. But dont wory you have very long time to go as you are in remission at the moment.
