What Are Effects Of Single Lung Collapse?
It depends on the cause and severity of collapse
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
There can be so many causes of lung collapse and in your case it is tuberculosis.
In tuberculosis the collapse of lung can occur
1)due to compression of airway due to enlarged lymph nodes,
2)Due to damage of the lung parenchyma causing pneumothorax(collection of air outside the lung below the chest wall) leading to compression and collapse of whole lung
3)The collapse can be associated with pneumonia due to tuberculosis
4)It can be due to collection of mucus plug or any growth in the main airway causing collapse
As there is a past history of tuberculosis I would like to get Gene expert done to see whether there is any resistance to the common drugs causing recurrence.
Also immunological study is needed as recurrent tuberculosis is more common in immunodeficient person.
High resolution CT SCAN and bronchoscopy(direct visualisation of airway through video camera) is needed for exact cause and if there is any musus plug or growth is found it can be removed to relieve collapse.
There are two lungs(right lung has three lobes and left has 2 lobes) and the symptoms depends on number of lobes involved.
There can be breathing difficulty, cough, blood mixed sputum.
So in this condition I would like to get HRCT and bronchoscopy done.A sample of sputum or growth should be taken for TB culture and sensitivity.
Incentive respirometer helps in improvement of lung collapse.
Till that time continue the present medication.
I hope this helps.
Please do ask if you have any more query.
